has this always been a problem?

have you tried posting in microstation forum?

can you share a sample dgn & dwg file and do a screenshot showing exactly how the linetype should look like?

when I open your dxf file on my AutoCAD the linetypes show up:

They also show up after saving as dwg

Did you try opening the dwg I attached which was saved from your dxf?

for our projects it has to be sent as a dxf file and not dwg.

nope...like I posted in my reply, I just opened your dxf in AutoCAD and that already showed the linetypes, then for the sake of argument I saved it as dwg and that still showed the linetypes. The question now is when you open the dwg I saved do you see the linetypes?

When I open your example.dxf in AutoCAD, at first I don't see the linetypes.

Then I zoom in closer to one of the areas and then enter command REGEN I now see the linetypes.

Provide others you've given the dxf to with these same instructions and they also should see the linetypes shown:

is there any way to make the file show the lines without having to type in anything when you open it?

sounds like limitation of keeping it as a dxf.

but if saved as dwg then it'll be saved in that zoomed in status showing the linetypes

While in AutoCAD:

command VIEWRES

and set to the highest value.

Answer Yes to the fast zoom question.

Command: VIEWRES

Do you want fast zooms? [Yes/No] <Y>: Y

Enter circle zoom percent (1-20000) <20000>:

@AHuynhM8MBE and yet another set of helpful instructions for users receiving the dxf but must be executed at least once when the dxf file opens since by default the setting is 100
