Need a good VBA book

Anonymous
Not applicable
Have a little development project to do in ACAD/M that is going to require VBA. I have previously
done the job in MDT using LISP, but the client has decided that Inventor is for 3D and ACAD/M is for
2D. Unfortunately, it needs some automation to reduce drawing time yet further, and to simplify /
improve parts listing and downstream time wasting.

Does anyone recommend a decent book that I can use to get me up to speed on VBA. I have the AutoCAD
VBA foundations AOTC title, but there was a lot of functionality missing from VB in R14. I am not a
complete novice at VB (I actually did the foundations course nearly 3 years ago), it's just that I
need practice and some good guidance.

TIA

There are only a few books on VBA and Autocad and they are all very good.
Except for one! In my opinion, the Mastering AutoCAD VBA book is useless and
just re-iterates the online help with little to no useful examples. Thats
just my 2-cents for discussion 🙂

Joe's book is GREAT and I like the Autodesk books too.

Anyone have comments on the new AutoCAD 2002 VBA books?

I in no way want to cut on Joe. He has personally helped me on many occasions but his book did me no good (probably because until purchase I had no understanding of VBA besides the VLisp extensions I was working with which really do not count). Is there another book for us simpler minds??? Joshua Modglin

If you're looking to get familiar with the acad model, then any of the books
mentioned will do that and more. If you're just looking for a VBA
reference, then try "VB & VBA in a Nutshell" by Paul Lomax. I've only had
it a few short months and my hand print is already worn onto the cover 🙂

That is entirely true. I have Joe's book and use it all the time, but it
is not a tutorial on VBA. That is probably why it is sub-titled
"Programmer's Reference".

The Autodesk Series book on VBA is a good starting point. And the Series'
book on Database Connectivity is also very good.
