Can I still BUY VB6?

Hi All,

My company hired a 3rd party to develop a program and asked that it be compatible back to ACADv2k. Now that they're about to release the source to us we find they developed it with VB6 to comply with the compatibility issue but we do not have VB6 in-house. Instead, we have Visual Studio 2005, which will not open VB6 code. Don't ask me why the developers didn't mention that they would have to use obsolete tools to meet the spec, or why MS would not make the VS backward compatible.

Anyway, i can't find VB6 for sale anywhere!!! How frustrating is this?? Can anyone suggest a means for me to purchase this developers tool?

Thank you very much in advance,

Sal

Search for it on ebay. There seems to be plenty packages available.

obsolete tools to

Autodesk recommends using VB6 for COM automation. If you need it upgraded to
2005 ask your developer or may here who will do it.

Have you tried ebay for VB6. That's how I got VS7.

I searched for VB6 and Visual Basic 6 and found only downloadable training. Is either Visual Studio 2005 Pro or Visual Studio 2005.NET able to work with VB6 code?

I saw a book titled "Visual Basic 6 from scratch"
Publisher: Que
ISBN: 0789721198

It says "The book comes with a working version of Visual Basic 6". Will this allow me to work with the source code?

Thanks,
Sal

Okay...are you searching e-bay? When i search "all categories" for "Visual Basic 6 software" i get 64 finds and they all seem to me to be training, tutorials and the like.

Will these selections allow me to open/view source code developed with VB6?

Thanks,

my understanding is that it is easier to find Visual Studio 6 which includes
vb6/c etc
it's also cheaper than vb6 alone from what I heard

check the microsoft site, you can downgrade a license to a previous version, VS to VB 6.

I don't have a direct link but if you search for downgrade you'll find it.

I would expect that there are copies on ebay as others have posted.

search for 'microsoft vb 6' or 'vb 6 full version'

If VS can open txt files, why can't it open a bas file? It might not open the project, but you should be able to open/import the other files. Last resort, open it in Notepad and copy/paste.

VB in VS 2005 can not open a VB6 project directly, but it can CONVERT (or upgrade ) a VB6 project to VS 2005. It is not a 1:1 conversion though. Some code may need to be updated/rewritten by you.

In VS 2005, Click File->Open Project...
Then select the .vbp (Visual Basic 6 Project) file in your source directory. This will start the Conversion Wizard.

Yes i am. But when an earlier post informed me that VB6 was included in Visual Studio 6 (not to be confused with VS 2006), i was able to find VS6 at a local distributor. My boss has ordered it (or so he said he would.)

It sounds as though you have a copy for sale? If so, and if the bosses plan falls through, how can i reach you?

bingo... I purchased visual studio a number of years ago but never used it seriously. I even took an expensive fast track MSCSD course but most of it went way over my head
I am just abit nervous about posting my email address...
... but let me see what I can do.
