Where is the unresolved XREF?

I am happy that Vault 2016 restricts this scenario below with overlay XREFs. However this means that data checked in with Vault 2014 cannot be checked back in after a few small changes. This is a huge confusion to the users because they don't see the broken link in the XREF manager.

In the scenario below, the user must open every Overlay XREF to find the unresolved XREF. This can take hours when I have 10-100 XREFs.

Vault Solution: Provide the path and filename of the DWG with the unresolved link. Bonus points for prompting to open the DWG with the unresolved link.

AutoCAD Solution: Provide a view mode to see all file relationships by ignoring Overlay (don't change what is displayed graphically).

Can you explain how you got the file with the missing xref into Vault?  In Vault 2014, if the xref was missing during that time, the AutoCAD add-in will not allow you to check in the drawing.  Did someone add the file through Vault and not AutoCAD?

Certainly Irvin,

Check-in using Vault Client (drag-drop) without using AutoCAD or Inventor has always been disabled so I know that is not the cause. Our users use overlay XREFs 90% of the time. I was not sitting with the users most of the time when they check-in version 1. I suspect the user checks in MAIN.DWG and XREF1.DWG is resolved in AutoCAD/Vault 2014. Also some users use the Check-in Folder on the AutoCAD Vault Toolbar. @Anonymous and I never saw this situation in AutoCAD/Vault 2014.

Same problem. Exactly as Josh states. I like his potential fixes.
