DWF and DWF x and PDF is pretty poor. Would be good that an Admin could select the file formats. The forge viewer is already used for viewing, whx is it restricted to just 3 formats.
In Vault you can upload more or less any file type. The idea is to also upload cad files from other cad systems like Catia or NX, just for the purpose to store them. The Forge Viewer in BIM360 is able to view Catia files or NX files. The Thin Client of Vault also uses the Forge Viewer, but is limited to DWG and DWF. One workaround would be to map Vault with BIM360, but it would be much easier if the Forge viewer in Vault Thin Client would not be limited. Thanks Ralf
I do understand the request. However, the Autodesk Viewer must translate file types into a different format to display to the user. While fast on the cloud, this translation could introduce performance issues on the Vault Server and in the Vault clients. Not only does it have to translate the file, but if they are CAD files with references, it must also understand how to use all of the files to create the view. This is also why Vault requires the DWF file for Inventor files. Translating a DWF file does not require all the things required to translate a native CAD file.
