Vault setting Custom View as Default View

Vault setting Custom View as Default View

Since Vault 2024.2 admins can distribute (Custom) Views to all the users on the Vault. So far, the feature is really appreciated but only missing one more feature that would might enhance it even further.

It would be great to be able to select and set a (Distributed) Custom View as a Default View per user for the every folder. As an administrator of the Vault, I've made several distributed views for different departments. Not all departments use or need to fill in all the data in the Vault. The users will only see what they have to fill in or is useful to them.

Currently, this can only be done by selecting one folder and set it to the preferred custom view. This is a tedious process and many users wouldn't bother.

Once custom view is created, be able to select it as the default
Along with this, the ability to distribute the "Default View" seems to cause some issues.

I fully agree on this.

Now that we have the ability to share view presets it would be great if the following option could be added:

As mentioned in OP

  • Per view option: Use as default for all folders.
    • Explanation: Default view to use for all folders if no other view is chosen for current folder.
    • I.e: Functionality like the standard default view but can be set to any given view preset.

Further brainstorming

  • Folder category settings: Set desired view preset as default per folder category.
  • Global settings > Groups: Option to set default view preset for different groups.
