Vault Pro 2018 Support for SharePoint 2016 online

Vault Pro 2018 Support for SharePoint 2016 online

Hi folks,

As a corporation we are moving many of our applications and data store system to cloud hosted online software as a service systems.

We run Microsoft Office 362 licensing and use SharePoint online for many data solutions.

We need Autodesk to support SharePoint 2016 online, not just on premise as currently supported.

Can we request Autodesk to enhance the current interface offering to include SharePoint 2016 online?

Best Regards,

Jim Williams

I am looking for why it was archived as well.... it is something I would vote for but not an option currently.

Hi @Anonymous,

Thank your for submitting your ideas as they are always welcomed. I moved this idea to Archived because it is a low strategic fit to the product future.  I will move your idea back to Future Consideration so that others can add kudos and comments.

Hi there,
With the strategic direction of Microsoft to take product and data to online services and even software as a service it should also be the direction of Autodesk to align with this in the interests of both Autodesk and your user community. We run 106 licenses of Vault and our integrations are increasing. Please pass on to the Vault product management team that aligning with Microsoft product road map would be an excellent strategy for future success. Best Regards Jim Williams

I agree with the above comments--the direction Microsoft is taking is moving away from desktop-based apps for software and services and migrate to Office 365, Sharepoint Online, and Teams, and Autodesk would do well to keep with that trend and update the vault plugin to function with SharePoint Online as it currently does with SharePoint 2013 and 2016 premise-based. I suspect this is a "low strategic fit for product future" because Autodesk wants to push their Fusion Lifecycle cloud-based product; even if this is not true, being a poor strategic fit is a poor excuse for not supporting new versions of Sharepoint as Microsoft migrates to them. We have been trying for over a year to implement a FLC system and it has failed miserably in coordinating and communicating with their Vault product. I cannot recommend FLC and for the millions of SharePoint users who want to continue to use Vault and will be forced to migrate to SharePoint Online, Autodesk would be positioning themselves to not move into future data management solutions. I can't imagine anyone would stick with Vault if it means using FLC, once they've tried to integrate FLC and Vault and seeing how it fails. It would behoove Autodesk to align themselves with Microsoft's evolution of products rather than call it a "poor strategic fit for product future." For Vault plugins to not support SharePoint Online just means Autodesk will be left behind as Microsoft evolves their platforms, software, and services to cloud-based. Vault needs to play nice with Microsoft, or users will opt to go with another data management solution. Please pass along to Vault developers our concerns with Vault's incompatibility with SharePoint's new versions.

We are not looking to develop a SharePoint integration, however our APIs are available for someone to develop their own integration.

Hi there,
I completely agree with your concerns here.
Users of Vault don't only make their decisions on CAD interoperability.
The long-term strategy of Autodesk alignment with Microsoft's roadmap, well advertised in advance, should align here where products integrate.
Can we please have Autodesk review this long-term strategy with Data Management product team for Vault.
Best Regards,
Jim Williams

This case should not be archived, it's a valid issue that the user community need addressing by Autodesk
