Is it possible to have the installer for a new release to navigate to the users program settings folder and transfer saved searches and custom grid views from the older version?

But it seems (from a non-programmer perspective) that it would be easy enough to include a script in the installer to grab these setting files from the previously installed version and transfer them to the new installed version. If not in the installer, then the User settings transfer tool would be a good way to implement this.
My guess that there may be something like this on its way with Autodesk ID being deployed more for licensing control that would link these to their Autodesk ID profile and stored in the great Autodesk Cloud.
