Trash Bin - Implement Shift+Delete For Immediate Permanent Deletion

Trash Bin - Implement Shift+Delete For Immediate Permanent Deletion

Change the Trash Bin to allow Shift+Delete for immediate, permanent, file deletion, just like Windows.

Also when "Enforce unique file names" is checked, filter out/ignore files in the trash bin, or give us the option to delete the offending duplicates in the Trash Bin and then continuing with the intended file operation.

Thank you for posting the idea.

Why do you want this option? What problem are you trying to solve?

Why can't the file go into the trash bin first?

The trash bin kind of just adds a layer of annoyance as currently implemented because it treats the files in it as still "existing", instead of just ignoring them.  We use "enforce unique file names" so were having issues when files were being deleted but remained in the Trash Bin and would interfere during follow-up actions like a Copy Design.

For instance, say someone used the wrong base design for the copy design... It was usually easier to just delete the newly created files and then redo the Copy Design from the correct base design than it was to modify the new files after the fact. However, what kept happening is the files would get "deleted" to the trash bin (but not emptied), then new Copy Design would get set up only to fail because "a file with the same name exists", even though it only existed in the trash...

Without the option to "delete files in trash and continue" users are forced to exit the Copy Design, get an admin to empty the trash bin, and then restart the Copy Design. Some of our Copy Designs involve hundreds of parts/assemblies so it quickly became extremely irritating for the users who were wasting significant amounts of time setting the appropriate keep/reuse/replacements in Copy Design, only to be smacked in the face when executing the copy.

Our "fix" was to simply disable the Trash bin for now. We'd operated without it since 2005 and luckily have only had one very minor case where a file was accidentally deleted so no big deal. I do like the idea of the Trash Bin for additional "oops" protection but it should work like Windows' Recycle Bin which doesn't care if you create a file with the same name that's in the trash. Not only should files in the bin be ignored, it probably should just give you the option of "which file" to keep if you do later decide to restore something from the Bin and the same named file exists.

When you mean changed to "Implemented" do you mean this already exists in Vault, or will be added in an upcoming patch? I tried Shift+Delete on a few test files, and it just gives the standard "will be send to the trash bin..." dialog.

Thanks for the information. I didn't mean to change this to implemented when I added the comment.
