Connecting to the Thin Client on a mobile device can be accomplished by pointing the mobile browser to the Thin Client server. If the phone is outisde of the network, opening port 80 on the firewall and assigning a FQDN to the Thin Client site is needed.
However, these settings doesn't solve the ability to view the DWF on the mobile client. We are researching technologies to do this in the future.
Description: Customer wants to transform to paperless factory. In the factory paper drawings should be replaced with iPads.
Challenge: - Thin Client is static programmed - Not very "hand friendly" usability - Employees struggle with usability - Viewing not possible with out of the box functionality
Proposal: - Change to HTML5, Dynamic WebApp - Implement viewing capability out of the box
Impact: - Customer cannotchange to paperless factory without Vault access drawings on IOS
Our company is shifting the production to be paperless. We have acquired a lot of Windows 10 industrial tablets for shopfloor use and also 24" touch displays. Unfortunately the thin client cannot be used on a touch display as a lot of actions require "mouser over" triggers.
A customer go to paperless and use a PLM solution and access data through mobile device.
Unfortunately, they don't use Fusion Lifecyle who could perfectly open DWF file in the web browser.
Then for this customer, on Vault side, the minimum today is to provide a way to see the DWFx Files (2D / 3D) in the thinClient for Android tablet (and iOS for other customers).
The only workaround from an android tablet:
- Navigate to the wanted file.
- Download the visualization file and upload it with Fusion or A360 App.
- Wait on the cloud to prepare the file and then I'm able to read the DWFx.
But it's not really straight forward.
Then, is it possible to have a better solution (for example automatically upload the DWFx file on the Cloud and access this URL through the thinClient)?
Autodesk DWF created 1995. Still not compatible on all web clients. Now being replaced by PDF in Autodesk preferred file neutral viewing and sharing format.
Autodesk Vault launched for Inventor in 2003.
Thin client released 2013? Or before.
Ipad launched 2010.
its 2019
And yet still Autodesk have not made DWF viewable on an IOS device direct from the thin client.
why. I want a paperless factory. I want to talk to my production team about my designs without having to print of a drawing or walk over to a computer. I want to show them what I can see and rotate and hide and explode as I can by using my iPad.
