Show quantity in Where Used tab of an item

Show quantity in Where Used tab of an item

It would be a benefit to see the quantity in the Where Used tab of an item.
It would be nice to see how often the item is used in different BOMs.

It would be very helpful if there was a Field in the Column chooser to allow users to see the number of places Where Used in the grid instead of having to expand out all the places to see how many places a part/assembly is used.

This could be extremely helpful to allow you to quickly see if a part is used someplace and allow you to see if it could be obsoleted or where it will need to be replaced.

Agreed!

Which Where Used tab are you referring to?

Directly inside Vault.  We have several groups that manage a parts library and this would aid in knowing if the parts are used in assemblies directly inside the Vault Client File side.  The thought is if we can add a column to the grid we can easily see if a part is used anywhere in Vault and allow quicker easier troubleshooting and/or deciding to obsolete/delete a part if not used anywhere.  Yes we can go to the "Where Used" tab but you have to select every file individually instead of just being able to look at a column in the grid.  Even using the "i" that you show in your screen shot a user would have to do this for each part individually.

This may not seem big but our parts library is several hundred thousand parts and can be extremely time consuming.  I would suspect that could be a big issue even on smaller libraries as well.

While you won't see the quantity, you can add the column "Has Parent Relationship" to the grid.

Hey Irvin,

That's a really great feature! I am excited about that one.

Could we also get something like this in the release? This is what Matt is suggesting - being able to add a where used qty column so we can easily see in a list form how much each part is getting used, helping us target unnecessary parts or where our user base might be misinformed. Thanks!

That will notify us that there is a relationship but that could be 1 relationship or 3,000.  We still have to investigate the magnitude of the obsoleting or deletion of a part.

Also why did we merge this with an Item Master record idea?  The idea submitted had over 20 votes already in an hour but those are now lost.  Can those not be added to this idea if we are going to merge them?  This idea also is for the column in the Item Master record for the qty of a part used in different BOMs not the number of Parent Relationships a part has.

Moving the idea back lost the votes. I don't have a way to get them back.

The two ideas are very similar even though they are different areas in Vault.

If we decide to implement it, we may look at doing both at the same time.

Ok thank you for the information and quick responses.

Until this is available at least we can see if files have a parent then dig deeper into the impact.
