Rules to Allow/Deny File Names

Rules to Allow/Deny File Names

I want to be able to restrict file names from Vault based on the absence or presence of certain strings.

We have a multiple-Vault setup and the ability to configure a denylist in File Options would provide SOME immediate benefit -- preventing data from one Vault from being checked in to another.  However, what we really need are Folder rules to allow/deny files by name.  This would support a policy to block problematic data Vault-wide, as well as to enforce file naming standards by individual projects/folders.

Conformity to our file naming standards is a huge part of the logic behind our automation.  I'd rather not have to rely on a 3rd party add-in to quarantine data.  Let's just stop it at the door!

It sounds reasonable that such a feature could be woven in with the existing Behaviors workspace in Vault -- but I'm having a hard time seeing exactly how this would work...

Could it be added to the Folder Details dialog?

@Pate.MacKenna

Thank you for posting the idea. Have you tried using Vault Data Standards, where you can customize and enforce file names based on folder location?

It's been on the list but I have not been able to try it yet.  I wasn't aware it had file name controls like this.

@Pate.MacKenna: That is one of the reasons why I am such a big friend of simple running numbers as file names. There are so many other properties which I can use to find document. But I know that this is a very controversial topic....
