Rename Wizard: Skip files that do not change

Rename Wizard: Skip files that do not change

Vault 2022

ISSUE: I selected 2 dozen files, I renamed 4 and validated the others. The restriction below forced me to go back to the previous wizard page and then manually remove all the filenames that did not change.

IDEA: If the filename does not change then skip it during processing and report that it did not change.

This Vault's [Enforce Unique Filenames] is unchecked so that is not the problem.

@Josh_Hunt

Thank you for posting the Idea. Please help me understand your workflow. If you didn't intend to rename the other 8 files, why did you select them and hit Rename?

Hi @ihayesjr  Good question.

USE CASE: I selected all 24 files because it is easier to validate in the grid that they match the same pattern.

EXAMPLE: The blurred part of the image above are all the same model number. However some model numbers were written inconsistently (spaces that should be underscores, redundant characters).

VAULT UI CONSISTENCY: This is not a huge issue for me but I'm logging it for UI consistency. The Edit Properties wizard is does not care about "unchanged" files.

  1. Edit Properties on a set of files.
  2. Edit some properties or none.
  3. Finish/Process > no errors for unchanged files but report displays that nothing was changed on those files.
