PDF options for Vault Pack and Go.

PDF options for Vault Pack and Go.

Hi Developers,

I think it would be nice to have more options for the Vault Pack and Go. Right now, when collecting a set of data to be sent to a supplier (IPT, IDW or PDF), it is possible to use Pack and Go to extract the IPT as well as IDW into a ZIP file or external folder to send to a supplier.

However, there are some instances where a supplier is only able to work with PDF, which Pack and Go is unable to include. It is not feasible to manually select the auto-generated PDF of drawings for huge assemblies, especially when there could be hundreds which need to be collected.

Thank you.

@kchong78 ,

Have you tried using Batch Plot to put the drawings into a PDF?

In the Pack n Go dialog, do you have the setting "include attachments" checked?

This should include the PDF files and you can multi-select all PDF files only.

@ihayesjr Yes, I have checked the "Include attachments" as well as "include dependents". Unfortunately, only the PDF for the highlighted IDW file (when initiating the Pack and Go command) gets included. All dependent design files and IDWs are included in the Pack and Go, but not their PDF files.

We need the ability to select a top level assembly in Vault and have the ability to get all associated children PDFs that were created in Vault. This would allow for a quick build of a PDF package for multiple uses.

I didn't even know Vault had Pack and Go until this post!! This is awesome.

  • It would also be nice to be able to sort by file type, etc by customizing the column headers.

Expanding on this, it would be really nice to even plot using the created PDF's. This would be helpful if you want a PDF package to send out based on the released PDFs and not the CAD files that may have pending edits.

As per the other comments here, it would be really useful to have the option to show lower level attached PDF's in Pack and Go. Currently it only shows the Attached PDF for the Top Level you pick, whilst showing all lower level Parts, Sub Assemblies and their related Drawings. But no PDF's! This is with all options in Pack and Go on and also verifying that the Lower Level component drawings do have correctly Attached PDF's published (Via the Job Processor).

We do this a lot, creating PDF drawing packs for suppliers, so would save a hug amount of time. Frustratingly, it is almost there, just want the PDF's to appear and hey presto 🙂

Including all drawings' attachments is possible when using P&G at the item.

But there are problems when components are used as virtual components in other assemblies. Therefore see my idea Improve unexpected results when using Pack'n'Go on Items/BOMS when using Virtual Components - Autode....

Can it merge it into one PDF document with all the drawing pages? We can merge it all into one document with .DWF Pack n Go then export after to one single PDF no problem, but we are trying to skip that DWF step because it is very time consuming.

This would be a very helpfull tool to implement!

When implementing please also add the option to make a package from the STEPS as well.

@J.Classens

Are you wanting to create a STEP file only package?

Hi Team,

I recently did some testing around this issue and found there's a work around if you want to create a Pack and Go from an Inventor assembly that includes all the PDFs (it will also include DXFs and STEP files) in Vault 2025.

If you assign item on the top level assembly then run the pack and go with that top level assembly selected all of the child item attachments will be included in the pack and go if you select the 'include all related files' option.

I hope that helps for now.

Thanks for the input!

@ihayesjr We want to make a simple export from the PDF and STEP files attachments from the main assy and depending childeren. With the Job processor we allready have made de PDF and STEP, we only want to collect them and put them in a folder. This way our purchase department can share the PDFs and STEPs with our suppliers.

@upchurt  This look great, two questions:

- STEPs arren't exported. We use vault 2024, is this a new option in 2025?

- Can we tweak the settings that we are only exporting the attachment not the native files?

   We can delete the native files after exporting but when it's not needed we would prefer that.
