@ihayesjr, because what if they're NOT inventor files (e.g. selecting multiple PDF's and wanting to open them all up).
Moreover, I like to use the Vault Thick Client as my 'browser', i.e. as a Windows Explorer replacement. Vault is very handy at sorting and filtering and searching.
Actually, you've already seen this comment here: Ideas.../8400977.
Please add this feature. It is regular practice to check all (or at least most) assemblies in the Where Used tab when modifying a part to ensure compatibility with existing designs. This feature should have been present on day one, frankly. Even File Explorer can do this.
Currently when selecting multiple files in the vault the "Open" option is greyed out. Having the ability to open selected files at once instead of individuality has some advantages. The majority of engineers considered this not very efficient for them to quickly access files for swift assessment of designs. Unless there's another alternative to achieve this action.

for the workflow it would be very convenient, if we could select and open multiple drawings / parts at once. The subsequent dialog box for checking out parts, would apply to all selected ones. It could save us a lot of time.
Would be very happy, if you could add this feature, in the near future.
If anyone wants the workaround i use. I take Get on all files i want. I go to the folder they are at. Open all from there. Then go back to vaul and select all files then checking them out
I'm still perplexed why such a basic function doesn't exist. I too would like to open multiple files at once in Vault, just like I can open multiple files in Inventor. It would be just as convenient, if not more so, to open multiple files in Vault as it is in Inventor.
It's because AutoDesk doesn't talk to Engineers when making a sale. They talk to finance or management and wow them with buzz words and flashy visuals in pre-made presentations.
If things were done above board, the Engineer would be given unrestricted access to the software suite to assess it before purchase. They would get to Vault, attempt to open multiple files, learn the feature is missing, then say "Alright, let us know when you finish development", then walk out of the room.
Autodesk often responds to user suggestions with the generic phrase "for future consideration," yet this has been ongoing for years without much progress. Other applications I use already have this feature, and end-users appreciate it. Additionally, MicroStation presents fewer problems, crashes less frequently, and rarely requires updates to fix issues that should have been addressed before release.
Thank you all for the recent comments. I try not to give generic responses, such as "Future Consideration." However, we do our best to implement as many ideas as possible in our release cycles.
We are considering reusing the behavior described in matthias.pass post . TheOpen File Behavioroptions will determine how files are opened in Inventor, AutoCAD, Revit, or the default Windows application.
Multi-select is supported only for files of the same type (e.g., all ipt) or from the same provider (e.g., ipt, iam, ipn, and idw from Inventor can be opened together).
Opening mixed file types from different providers (e.g., Inventor, Revit, AutoCAD, and Default) in a single operation is not supported, and the Open command will be disabled.
Questions:
Is the scenario described sufficient for opening multiple files at once? (Yes/No)
If No, why not?
Does the inability to view all selected filenames (limited to 3-5 names) in the dialog prevent you from opening multiple files? (refer to matthias.pass post)
