Open Drawing From Vault

Open Drawing From Vault

When right clicking the open part or model in the browser there is an option to open the drawing.  If the drawing is not available locally it opens a window to browse for the drawing.  It would be very useful if it were to instead prompt whether to retrieve the drawing from the Vault if it is not found locally.

Hi.

I am a inventor and vault user.

Why on earth can not inventor search and open the drawing from vault, if the drawing not are in the workspace??

if an assembly are missing a part in workspace i get a question if to get it from vault or not.

The same should be for drawings. And of course with the choise, not have to answer yes every time.

Hello,

There is an option to open a drawing from the tree, iam or ipt files.  However when we identified that inventor could not link to the drawing Autodesk was notified to see if there was a solution.  It turns out that it was on our method that was causing the broken link.  We would save our models by naming them "x-part" or something.  Then when we created a dwg/idw we would structure them numerically which by doing this we are changing the name of the drawing from the original model.  This is where Inventor loses its linking ablilty.  In order to resolve this we would have to save from the beginning with the numerical part naming convention from the model - to - drawing to maintain linking.

If you are logged into the vault, you should have the Quick Launch options available to you in the Open File window.openfromvault.JPG

The circled icon open the Open from Vault explorer.

Hope this helped!

With this icon you still have to browse the vault in order to find the proper drawing.  It would be nice if the drawing associated with the part were to open automatically from the vault, as it does from the local directory.

The best workarround i can find is to rightclick the assambly or part, then select "vault" and then "show details" If ther is a drawing in the vault that has refferences to the part or assambly it should show up here regardless a local copy or not.

Hope it helps.
