I noticed that the measure command in the new thin client forge viewer, does not allow the measurement of diameter, radius, distance between two holes impementation plans? This is a problem for the workshop
I agree. You also can't measure the length of edges directly. Autodesk Design Review has this capability, so I know it's not a limitation of the DWF file format. We need to be able to do this from inside the Thin Client. Having to download and open files externally runs the risk of files being out of date.
When you use the measure inside Vault Professional (which uses the same forge viewer) the same limitations apply, no diameter measure. extremely limiting, especially when there is no download to design review.
Also the centre of hole doesnt create a round snap icon like it does in shared views.
This is really needed! I find the measure tool to be very frustrating. It can be almost impossible to get two points on a cylinder to get it's diameter, and even if you do, you can't 100% trust that dimension is accurate.
The measure tool was one of the big selling features for us to keep production moving around the clock, and now we find that we really can't even use it because of how difficult it is to get an accurate measurement.
On a side note - it would also be nice to have an option (or by default) for the measure tool on a drawing to give you a measurement accurate to the scale of the view. I know there is a calibrate option that can make this happen, but it is tedious to need to do that for every view.
A simple plane-to-plane measurement would also be nice. Really the same functionality of Inventor or Autodesk Design Review's measure tool would be ideal.
This is also a huge limitation for our users and a reason we all try our best with Autodesk Design Review, but suffer through crashes and other problems...
So the first time this was requested was almost 3 years ago. Also the autodesk online view can measure if you upload the native ipt file. Then you can measure from the center but only one time. If you come back to that model again then measuring from the center point stops working. that is a bug!!
We want to implement the ThinClient viewer as our default viewer. But not being able to measure a Diameter or the distance between two axis/holes is a major drawback for us aswell.
I could not find a solution anywhere. Does anyone know anything?
I am facing the same issue. I would also like to add that measuring angles is a mess. The three point angle measurement is unreliable unless you know the trick to using it. Autodesk even has it recognized as a problem in a support article but their solutions are suboptimal:
I don't understand why they chose the measurement scheme they did. It should be simple to copy the measure tool methods from Inventor. Not being able to select faces, hole centers, edge lengths, and more limitations is insane. I really want to be able to select two faces and see the angle between them.
I would argue the measurement tools are the single most important feature of the Autodesk Viewer and it needs to be fixed.
