Multiple Filestore locations

The wish is to support multiple filestore locations.

Currently Autodesk Vault, supports just one filestore location. Although Vault does not formally support NAS or SAN devices, some have partition limits such as 2TiB. (See "Autodesk support for Network Attached Storage (NAS) and Storage Area Network (SAN) devices").

If approaching a hardware limit, an ADMS Console Purge should be executed, as a temporary mitigation. Alternatively, switching to a NAS or SAN device that supports larger partitions.

Ideally, Vault would support adding a second filestore location.

This is very good idea. I know a solution IBM Filenet who does support this.

With versions.

for example: the latetest 5 versions wil be saved in the primary filestore (Fast , save and costly harddrive solution - SAN)

th older versons will be saved in cheaper harddrive. (Secondary filestore)

But I think there is also need for an archiving feature in Vault.

Storage spaces in Windows server provides server-side caching. Frequently used files are moved to NVME or SSD drives as a cache, while files which are in non-frequent use are stored on cheaper rotational drives.

So you get all the benefits of fast SSD access, while the rotational drives provides the large storage space.

Thank you for posting the idea.

We have reviewed this request and have decided to archive it for now.

Windows Servers and probably NAS\SAN devices already provide methods to extend a disc volume to look like one drive which can help with running out of space for the file store. 

Please continue to comment if there are different scenarios we need to consider.
