Manage files in the local workspace from Vault client/add-in

The vault client should show the local workspace.

You should be able see status of files in your workspace as compared to the common are in the Vault database.

You would be able to see what files are out of date.

You would be able to see what files have been renamed.

You should be able to see state a file is.

You should be able to "Lock" local files that you are certain you don't want to modify or let recalculate.

You should be able to remove files from you local workspace through the client.

You should be able to see what files you haven't checked in.

You should be able to rename, revise, and state change the files in your local workspace and have all three areas update: Workspace, session and Vault database.

If a file is renamed the local file should get renamed.

I would like to add to this idea of using the stand alone Vault client software:

Mind you, some of these new functions would propagate to the master vault.

You should be able to check in and check out from your local workspace.

You should be able to copy design from your local workspace

You should be able to rename files

You should be able to move files around in your local workspace

And In the client add-in for inventor/autocad:

I should be about to have a additional options when checking in files from inventor add-in

like having a column that is named "Keep checked out" and have a box to check for

each file on whether or not you want to keep it checked out after checkin.

If I am logged into the vault and I open models/drawings from outside the vault I should be able to

do a check in from inventor and specify in a check in window which folders I want these models/drawings

checked into.....without having to create a project and map folders outside the vault to inside the vault.

I completely agree with this request, there should be a local workspace explorer that you can see all of this information without having to open files in inventor or doing a search in the vault to see the status, state or ?  All the other state of the art cad systems do.

I especially like the way PTC does their workspaces........take the best from all and combine them and viola!
