Make Vault and Inventor Read-Only 100% usable

Make Vault and Inventor Read-Only 100% usable

Hello,

Today, there is no "easy" way to open native Inventor files from Vault into Inventor Read-only.

In Vault Workgroup, Professional, Office if you try to open an Inventor assembly containing Content Center Files into Inventor Read Only, you will obtain an incomplete result (missing content center files).

This is consider by Autodesk "as design". Then please vote to "finish the work" an make it really usable.

Thanks in advance.

Wanted behavior:

  • Open command must open files in Inventor Professional OR Inventor ReadOnly (with all children downloaded in the workspace like Content Center Files).
  • View command must open DWFx files if it exist OR Inventor ReadOnly if no DWFx.

BTW, I put in a similar idea concerning the Thin Client: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/vault-ideas/file-download-in-thin-client/idi-p/9614237

@xavier_dumont2

Thanks for posting the Idea. When you are using Vault Office with Inventor Read-only and no DWF file exists, use the View in Window command to open the parent files. This will open the Inventor files with the Content Center libraries.

@ihayesjr Yes it's a possible workaround. Uninstalling Design Review is another workaround.

But, if we want to have the choice using DWF for quick-view AND using Inventor Read-Only for a more realist result, those 2 workarounds are note acceptables.

For released files, there is always a DWF generated by JobProcessor (if the Vault implementation is fully configured).

@ihayesjr In fact, I don't know if there is a good explanation why Open from Vault Thick Client will not download Content Center Files. Is there a situation where you don't want to get Content Center Files?

@xavier_dumont2 With 2023 Release we have the option to View files "Only in Inventor Read only". Hope that solves this idea. Am I right?

@Senthil_Kumar Yes it solves this situation. Thanks a lot, now Vault Office can be used as a "viewer" of files in Inventor RO.

Have a nice day.

Thanks for confirming @xavier_dumont2

Does this mean that - if you have Vault office installed together with Inventor Read only - , you can view assemblies from a Vault? Our non-cad users prefer Inventor RO to view Vaulted models.
