After performing a Civil 3D and Vault Pro Implementation, I've discovered a few items that I believe could help make the end user workflow experience much better.
- As the majority of Civl firms I've worked with typically follow a template Project folder structure that will be reused repeatedly as new "projects" are won, it would be great if the Clone Structure utility within the Autodesk Add-On tools was integrated into the out of the box functionality for Vault Workgroup or Vault Professional. Typically the permissions for these project subfolders are repeatedly reused and controlled by Access Control Lists. In out of the box Vault, this is tedious to set, as is creating Folder Categories and all of the Folder Category Rules. The Clone Structure utility would be a nice inclusion into out of the box content to not only make the implementation easier, but the end user workflow to create new projects (as currently new projects seem to have to be created within Civil 3D).
- While working in Civil 3D within an active Project (and logged into Vault) users will save the drawings within the mapped Vault working folder area locally prior to checking the files into Vault. After saving the files and attempting to check the files in, the users are additionally prompted to select the Project they'd like to add the drawing to, in addition to the subfolder within the Project which seems extremely redundant. It would eliminate quite a few steps for the end user every time they need to check drawings in from Civil if Civil 3D/Vault understood that the files were already saved within the Vault Working Folder area so understand what Vault project and subfolder the drawing should be checked in to.
