Extend predefined list for Numbering Scheme in use and locked

Currently if a Numbering Scheme is in use, it is locked.

Current State :

In a locked state only the Field Type "Auto-Generated Sequence" Length size can be edited.

e.g.    length 4 set at 0000-9999    could be set to 5   00000-99999

If the last sequence was 0042  the new sequence would start at 00042

No other fields are be modified.

However the Locked Numbering Scheme can be deleted

Desired State :

  1. Provide the ability to edit the Pre-Defined Lists on a locked scheme to extend the pick-lists for future growth.
  2. Remove the ability to delete Numbering Schemes. Replace with disable and re-enable
  3. Block the ability to create the same Numbering Schemes Sequences even if the scheme names are different.

Deleting a Numbering Schemes in use and then recreating the same Numbering Schemes allows for the same Numbers to be generated for different Files\Items since the base number is reset.

This is fundamental to use the pre-defined list on an schema!

"Provide the ability to edit the Pre-Defined Lists on a locked scheme to extend the pick-lists for future growth" (j.stewart).

It's so basic to imagine that you'll need this feature to add more values to an existing pick-list...

Can't use this feature when Its not possible add more values to the list.

This is something we are looking forward to as well.

Currently we are using a free text field and an excel to keep track of the product codes, although this is more prone to human error and we need to keep referring to the external list or remember all the codes (easier said then done).

Definitely agree, we use numbering schemes and of course we don't always set up the scheme with everything it needs in the drop down lists so then we have to go back and redefine the whole scheme with a new name.  Recreating a new scheme to add what is needed also creates a ton of work too because Vault doesn't know what has been created it is just a new count from 0 if you use auto-generated numbers.  We would love to see this changed.
