Create Windows Explorer Shortcuts for Vault Links (Project Links)
In addition to showing Links in Thin Client, it would be helpful to have Vault create a Windows Explorer Shortcut with the same folder structure as seen in the Vault Client.
Thank you for posting the idea. Can you tell me what problem you are trying to solve with this request? Why is it necessary to create Windows Short-cuts from Vault links?
Hi Irvin. Less of a problem to solve; more of a convenience/usability factor. A shortcut's primary purpose is allow users more convenient access to data. Instead of having to remember a long path or complicated folder structure, a shortcut can allow a user to find data more quickly.
Many companies structure their Vault data into Products & Projects folder structures. When they begin a new project, they often create links back to their Products structure to allow reuse and to help facilitate users such as Project Management and Project Engineering to more quickly find and manage approvals on deliverables that pertain solely to the project.
For users that have access to the Thin Client, the previous idea of having shortcuts visible is crucial since those users are expecting to see that data at the project level. For those that have access to the thick client, having the shortcuts be in the same location in the Windows Explorer environment would help maintain that convenience and reduce the time needed to find data.
I hope that adequately explains the reasoning behind the idea/request.
