Access Vault Thin Client using Vault Gateway

As title. Now that we can use the Vault Gateway to access vault without having to use a VPN can we also access the thin client in the same manner?

Thank you for your post. Opening the Thin Client through the Gateway opens security concerns which is why it is not possible to access it.

I think access with Vault Thin Client via Vault Gateway is a good way to give your company's service users current access to viewing data without using a VPN or a full-fledged Vault Client.

Those users can use Vault Mobile in Read-only mode.

Is it possible to run the Vault Mobile app on a Windows 10 notebook?

I think - no.
Above all, service users need access to viewing data.
That's not very convenient on a smartphone.
Viewing on an additional tablet would be possible, but it would also be difficult to use.

@ihayesjr can you please give some indications on how Vault mobile can be used with gateway.

I am trying to connect in this way but I recieve the message "Fail to connect to Vault server". I have both "Use secure connection" and "Sign in with read only acces" options ON.

Thanks in advance!

@vali_dobrea

There is nothing special about using Vault Mobile through the Gateway. If your client is working, Vault Mobile should also work.

I was never able to get the mobile app to connect (android). My vault gateway works but the mobile app doesnt connect. Also I will agree with what has been recently said. If we need a 3rd party to view vault data it feels dumb to say "Here's access but you can only view it on your tiny phone"

@aaronbreaux do you use vault account to connect or Autodesk ID?

@ihayesjr maybe this should be further investigated ... I use vault account to connect to Vault!

More, please confirm, from what I can remember at this point Gateway is not supported on web browsers due to security issues!

Autodesk ID.

@aaronbreaux If you are having problems using the mobile app through Vault Gateway, please create a support ticket for further assistance.

Correct, we do not expose the Thin Client for security reasons.

Okay, so Vault in the Cloud using Gateway, this allows remote users (engineers and Designers) to bypass VPN... But removes the ability to use Thin Client. Thin Client is used by our shop workers/purchasing when they need to look up a part/drawing and saves us from purchasing additional Vault licenses. What is the expected method for the shop users access said content if the company wants to go towards Vault Gateway?

@Hunteil

Vault is not "in the cloud". Vault is still on a server on your company WAN.

@ihayesjr

After giving this some more thought. I understand Autodesk doesn't really want to open gateway up for thin client users citing security issues. What about a read only vault client similar to what you (Autodesk) guys did with Inventor Read-only? A trimmed down vault client which is able to connect to the gateway and has read only access to vault data?

@aaronbreaux

You can use Vault Mobile in a Read-only mode.

I can't speak for others but vault mobile is not the solution.

Imagine telling the document consumers at a secondary location that they need to use their phones to download and print manufacturing documents.

@aaronbreaux

We do have Vault Office for document consumers.

We also have Project Sync where you can send specific files to Fusion Team.

Does vault office client require a license for read only access? We don't use fusion

No, Vault Office is not free. It is a cheaper cost then the full price Vault Pro client.

We do not have any plans on creating a "read-only" client.

The purpose of Vault Thin Client is to share data with users who do not have a license. However, it is unfortunate that the Gateway cannot be utilized. It would be great if this aspect could be improved.😢
