When I export a 3D PDF, I have the option to attach the STP file. Why not add the 2D PDF as another attachment? This way one file can satisfy multiple audiences without the need to download software specific for DWFs.
All of the individual elements are already in existence. This idea is just to combine them automatically when an item gets released.
A 3D PDF communicates the gist of what's in the model for those who cannot read 2D drawings or cannot open 3D STP files, and has a significant advantage over a DWF: everyone and their mother can open a PDF.
The 2D PDF is attached for what's contractually being communicated to build.
The 3D STP is attached for who's programming the part on a CNC machine.
The ability for Vault to version 3D PDFs would be welcomed. We want to use them, yet storing multiple version of the 3D PDF is not a preferred situation. The ability to have them version or revise like 2D PDFs, in my estimation, is a JDI instance.
Plan A: As our designs get more robust, we see the value in creating 3D PDFs for our customers. Vault doesn't currently generate 3D PDFs, yet having a versioned/revision level PDFs created through Vault would be very valuable to have. Giving us the ability to do this, as we currently do with 2D PDFs, is definitely a big wish list item, if not a JDI case.
Plan B: Allow us to create the 3D PDF outside of Vault, yet give us the ability to check in the new 3D PDF, have Vault recognize a 3D PDF of the same name, and automatically version the 3D PDFs based on the date of creation.
Either way, I'm hoping I've conveyed these ideas clearly enough for future consideration. Thank you.
