Manage Workgroup Replication

I'm trying to enable Workgroup Replication, but am getting a permissions error. I get a Database server could not copy file to error, Please vereify if permissions and disk space allow this operation.

I have created a shared folder and added read/write permissions to current user(which also happens to be the replication user acct), AutodeskVault, and SQL Agent.

I am using the Replication User credentials when trying to enable workgroup replication.  Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

BTW - in the image attached that depicts the error, the folder \ADMS' does not exist yet.  The system is trying to create it.

Dave, have you applied object level permissions to that folder for those accounts, or share permissions?

Yes. It is unclear to me which users/accounts should have access to this folder, I have set the permissions for all of the following accounts to "Allow" for every category:

SYSTEM

Autodesk Vault

SQL Agent

VaultPro (this is my login account, and also the replication account)

Administrators

What else should I include?

Hi,

When setting permissions on a share there are actually two places permissions need to be set. On the 'security' tab and then permissions on the share itself.

Have you set permissions in both places?

Yes, it is done in both locations. I've even made sure the child files and folders inherit the permissions, but I still get the same error. I was logged in to Vault as the administrator, and decided that maybe I need to be logged in as the Domain user. Still no joy.

Dave - it's a sledgehammer approach and definitely not recommended for final production use, but if you're just testing and want to get it up and running quickly, if you put the 'Everyone' group as full control over the share and at object level (security tab) that should get it rolling for now.  You can then troubleshoot the permissions later on.

Hi Dave,

The security requirement is for the replicating user and the user SQL server runs under. I suspect the later is what is giving you problems. This can be determined by looking in windows 'local services' and seeing who the SQL server service is running under. Historically this has been 'network service' however in doing a quick test here I see that SQL 2014 uses a different service user. So looking up the exact user is the best approach.

The Sledgehammer approach has worked. I can now move forward. Thanks for all the help.
