Hi..  If I need to go backwards and get the previous version of a part.  How can I check it back in to make it the latest version again without having to Refresh or Update Properties?

All is well getting the old version except I cannot check in because the check in and check out buttons will remain grayed out unless I Refresh or update..

Hello,

Where are trying the checkin command from ? And which Vault version are you on?

If you are using Inventor there is another way too -

  • you can download the historic version of the file. Open it in inventor.
  • Use the 'Revert to Latest' command in Vault browser RMB menu on the file.
  • This will checkout the historic version, you may choose to update properties OR not.
  • checkin back (with desired changes.) from Inventor.

Above for reference too.

Thanks again,

Before I try anything quick question..  What does updating properties do exactly?  Does it just update all the information in the properties menus?  It won't replace the model ?

Hello,

The Update Properties command retrieves file properties from Autodesk Vault and updates the mapped properties in the corresponding Autodesk Inventor/AutoCAD files. Files must be checked out before getting the latest properties.

So this command can be run only when you have a file downloaded, checked out and open in CAD tool - this command donot replace the model (if you are asking for design content).

Hello,

I have the part open.  In Inventor I cannot Check In, Check Out, or Update Properties.  All those are grayed out.  I have the "local copy does not match latest version" red arrows symbol next to the file in the Vault.  Vault version is 2018.  There is no "Revert to latest" option when right clicking the file in Vault.  How do I get Update Properties to light up?

Hi again..  I was able to get Update Properties to light up however the OK button is grayed out on the "Get Latest Properties" window.  So I'm not able to complete.

Hello,

May i ask what Vault edition are you on ? Note Vault Basic donot support 'Revert to Latest' command in Inventor Vault addin.

Please check :

  • You have correct ipj (project file in inventor) set.

Please refer following videos :

  • Using Vault Basic - workflow to checkout older version, download older version, checkin back using Inventor : https://autode.sk/2FQthZH
  • Using Vault Professional - workflow to use the 'Revert to Latest' command in Inventor. Note the 'Update Properties' command is not available on a historic version of the file. And 'Revert to latest' command is not available on a checkedout file : https://autode.sk/2FQthZH

Hope this helps.
