Get the drawing using bc reader

Hello to all,

Our Vault database consist of drawings which IDs are unique. In production we have provided a possibility to get the drawings as "ID.pdf" file.

In production, we always enter the ID into the search field, hit enter and get the drawing.

Is there any possibility to get the drawing in Vault using barcode reader cause we already have barcode on the product and we can put the barcode number as an attribute in Vault on each ID.pdf file?

Any help is very appreciated.

Best,

Danijel

I am not sure what you mean, if you already have the barcode number in the attribute, just hit search and get the drawing, what do you need a barcode reader for?

In case you don't know, there are some special fonts that can convert barcode numbers into barcode automatically instead of putting some barcode images on the drawing which may need a barcode reader. With such font you can put them on the drawing like normal texts.

I think this can be done, you need connect the carcode scanner to your system, get the result from it, and then perform a search based on the result through a vault add-in, or through http request to the thin client, then you can get the drawing.

I believe it can be done and I am trying to find a way.

Important note:

People don't like when they always have to think about the position of the mouse cursor in the moment of scanning the barcode. In other words, each barcode scanner's trigger must send the info to search field of the chosen environment (Web Client or Vault Client).

Looking at the same type of workflow, did you make any progress with scanning a barcode to pull up a drawing.  Our company has travelers with a barcode that give finish and quantity but the shop floor cannot use that information so we have to print out every drawing and then hand mark that information on the drawings.  There has to be a better way...
