Copy Design restriction of frame generator created assy

Vault (2019) will not allow Copy Design of Frame Generator created assembly.

Is this normal?

I had no issues doing a copy design on a frame generator assembly as long as I selected all the related files.  One easy you to do this is to use "Copy Branch" on top level assembly and sub-assemblies if they exist.

I do not have the option that you show in my context menu within Vault 2019

I tried any other file in vault and receive the same message so it is not a frame generator issue.

I thought it might have something to do with enforcing unique filenames but that is not the problem.

If you copy design on your top level assembly and you right click on the top level assembly, you say you do not have the option to "Copy Branch"?  Are you sure you are right clicking on the Frame Generator assembly file, not a drawing of it?  Please post a screen capture showing the Copy Design application, Frame Generator Assy and the Right Click context menu.

Yes, I am certain. There is no drawing at this time. I'm using Vault basic.
I believe that you are using the pro or enterprise version.

Can you successfully copy design just a normal part or assembly?  Or is Copy Design in general broken on everything?

At first I thought it was just frame gen. assemblies. Then I tried any file

Do you have read/write permissions on the files you are copying, and/or the location you are copying them to?

I am not able to remove the read only status from the folder.

When I view the folder/files properties they are marked read only. I un-check read only box and receive a message that the change will apply to all folders/files and apply ok.

When I return to the the folder/files properties they are once again marked read only.

I am logged in as an administrator.

Are you referring to the Windows folders, or the Vault folders?

I was referring to your permissions settings in Vault.  If you have security set on your life cycle transitions, and/or at the folder level in your project explorer, somewhere in there could be the answer.  At one of these levels, you might find the "Modify" is denied... which would give you Denied as your effective permission on those files.

If I'm understanding you correctly, then you are trying to do copy design on the auto-generated frame assembly, which would by default named as Frame001.iam.
Then Vault is doing the right thing, preventing you from doing it on an assembly not supposed to be copy-designed directly.
Think about it, the geometry definitions of the frame members are actually retrieved from the parent assembly in which this frame assembly was created. So you never should not do copy design on it, you should do it on the parent assembly.
Even if you can do it, the geometry informations of the frame members will lost, which would make the copied frame assembly usable.

@Anonymous's video shows him performing the copy design on the parent assembly, not the frame001 subassembly.  He also mentioned that he is having the same issue with non FG files in Vault.

Hello to everyone who has tried to help.

I tried again tonight to use Vault Basic 2019 to 'Copy Design'. This functionality is my main motivation for installing Vault.

I made a simple part, inserted it into an assembly, saved and checked into Vault.

From Vault I attempt to Copy Design the assembly and get the same restrictions.

I have used Vault Pro extensively in large organizations and have used copy design many times. I'm puzzled by this most basic installation failure.

Then maybe it's something wrong with your inventor.

Try to install all the sp and hotfixes for both inventor and vault.

Try re-register your inventor, for example, if you have multiple versions of inventor installed, switch to another version and then switch back.

Try to run Register*.exe with administrator privilege in your inventor Bin folder.

Try delete registry entry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\Inventor and restart.

And finally, try repair or even reinstall your inventor.

Have you looked at your effective permission settings as I mentioned earlier?  We need to rule out a permissions setting before we can move on, IMHO.

Worst case, from your Autodesk account, you could log a case with Support on this issue.
