AutoCAD / Vault Add In team... please explain this:

This is true in every version and vertical of AutoCAD whether you call it a tool set or a different version... this is always the same.

If there is no drawing open on the start screen, there are no Vault Add In tools available.  As soon as you start a blank drawing, or open an existing one, all Vault tools are suddenly available.  See the video for an example:

Attempting to open a sheet set from Vault right after starting up AutoCAD vanilla.  It's true in AutoCAD Electrical as well.  Also noticed that in AcadE there is no "Delete Local Copy" option when checking in to Vault.  This has been true from years and has been mentioned to Mr. Maguire in the past.

Hello @cbenner

Thank you for continuing to voice your concerns regarding this functionality.

We have a Idea Station for Vault & I see you have posted an idea there to help improve the user experience. I have reached out to the product team again for you to provide an answer to your suggested idea.

@natasha.l

The problem I have seen with this type of issue, across products, is that no one seems to want to take ownership of the Vault Add Ins.  For example, the AutoCAD team might says it's Vault's responsibility... Vault might say it is AutoCAD's.  Same with Inventor... someone needs to own these add ins, therein lies my frustration.

Hi @cbenner,
First of all, apologies for the impression that “no one seems to want to take ownership of the Vault Add Ins”,
We, the Vault team, own most add-ins. I say “most” because, through corporate weirdness, some add-ins are built by teams other than the Vault team. Don’t ask 😊.
To be specific for this thread, the Vault team does own the ACAD and Inventor add-ins.

This is not your first time around the block, so you know that we actively review ideas on the idea station.
If this thread is about the idea you posted there 4 weeks ago – could you provide more context about the idea there (Irvin requested additional information from you).
If this is something different – please post a separate idea, and we’ll review.

We take ownership of our software seriously and make every effort to craft it to solve customers’ problems.
Thanks for helping us make it better!

Hi @cbenner,

This behavior has been there ever since for what I can remember. Zero doc state is kind of special in AutoCAD and you may have noticed that not only Vault tab but also other tabs and even the entire ribbon is inactive. Having said that, we can certainly revisit the sheet set manager integration and see if we can enable vault open there.

Don’t be sorry – rants are good for one’s well-being 😉.
