Where used feature in plugin should show where used within the project, If project is selected.

Currently where used feature shows all the locations where the item is used. If item is used in multiple locations, it is extremely difficult for the user to identify all the locations within a project, where the item is used. So by default, once a project is selected, where used tab should show all the locations with in the project, where item is used. In addition to that there should be a 2nd drop down to show all other locations where the item is used.

This should also be consistent in the WebApp, too. Even though you actively have to select a project, it still shows the usage in all locations of every project.

This is important data for engineering, but for all other users, only the selected project is important.

Hi All,

Just out of curiosity if the project is the most critical piece of information in the Where Used, would emphasising it as the top-most node be more beneficial?

Hi Paul,

this would definitely be benefitial, since the current state is quite confusing if an item is used in a lot of different assemblies and projects.

If possible, only the BOM tree of the selected project should be expanded completely and the other projects BOM should stay closed. This way you get the best possible clarity without loosing the information that the items are used in different projects and the possibility to open thos BOMS if required.

Thanks, Adrian

Hi @arupp6847M,

I understood that to improve clarity, the system should only display the expanded tree in the BOM that is from the  current project. And for all others, we should collapse them.

Thus in the event where an Item is shown in multiple item assembly in the same project, we should display them as expanded as well.

Just a question; Is there any preference of showing the project label information? Last node? or the Top-most node?

Paul

Hi Paul,

that's correct. All instances of the item inside the chosen project should be expanded and displayed.

For the placement of the project information I would like to see the project name on the top (Right side of your image), but I think this is just my personal preference.

Thanks Adrian. Appreciate your feedback.

I will bring this back to the engineering team for discussion.
