how to create a workflow that puts item(s) from released in develop

Hi I would like to know how I can create a workflow that changes the state of items into develop.

I do not want to create a new version of the item like with the option under the three dots because this will remove the model etc. I just want the item to go into develop to change attributes etc.

Hi Evander,

Great question! There isn't a way to move a released item to development state via a workflow, and as you mentioned one way to achieve this is by using the New Version option in the Web app BOM interface.

However, there is another way of creating a new item version without stripping the item of its CAD and other documents. You can do this from the CAD Plugin, by simply taking the released item, checking it out, and checking it in to Upchain (or saving). This will create a new item version, in development, and retain the CAD-item relationship.

From there, you may modify the attributes of the item and, eventually, release the updated item.

This is a lengthier video that covers more than your use case, but at the 2:55 mark you can see a demonstration of what I've described above:

Hi, great to hear from you,
Thanks it is a solution, but it would be very helpful if this could be possible. For instance for employees that do not have CAD.
Maybe a good idea for additional functionality?

Ha I just tried making a quick CR workflow to see if I could update a Released part into Development status. It looks like the status once set to Released is hard set and can't be modified by workflows...image.png

However.... You could adapt a practice for Upchain where every time an item with CAD files is released, the CAD engineer would than check out all the CAD items again to generate a "working" copy of the item to non-CAD users...

Draw backs to this is your project BOM will annoy you and say you're not working off the latest revision... I can't see other problems with this.
