Let's see if i understand this correctly - Vault Pro

So, as far as i can figure it out Vault pro will be affected by this and it has me wondering a few things:

• Vault Pro server - doesn't require named user login, won't need changes
• Vault Pro client - will change to named user login, might need reinstall to accommodate. (?)
• Vault Pro office - will also change to named user login, same as client.

Our company has 2 discounted Vault seats and 1 seat without discount in one contract and 1 more seat without discount in another contract.

With the possible trade-in we will get 8 standard subscriptions, of which 4 will fall under the discounted price (?).

We also have 1 discounted Vault office seat, which would turn into 2 discounted standard vault office subscriptions.

(discounted, as in from the maintenance to subscription discount)

Am i still correct so far?

Now for some questions:

Where will those standard subscriptions go contract wise?

Will they all fall under the contract where they are traded in, fall under 1 of the contracts or be assigned to a new contract?

This has been asked already, but i'm not sure there was a really clear answer so:

When we trade in the seats, we get double the subscriptions for the same price.

Will (ALL) these traded in subscriptions remain at "half-price" until that 2028 date?

If the Vault clients are on named sign on, how does that tie in with Vault's user management? (does it even tie in?)

Like, if you're assigned a vault license on your account, but you don't have a Vault user login you're basically stuck with a useless license.

(easily fixed in our small company, but might be different for the big players...)

Hypothetically, if i create a "[email protected]" to use for temporary vault users.... is that even allowed?

I'd have to dive in to all the agreements to figure it out myself, so i thought i'd just ask...

That's it for now, probably will have more questions along the way or induced by answers i get to these.

I can answer some of your questions...

First the named account must be related to an actual human being email address.   The syntax you pointed out would be considered a generic ID and thus only certain applications (like CAM products) permit for this.  As far as I know Vault is not an application that allows for generic IDS.

Trading in for the 2 for 1 deal is only for subscription based product and only offered on your first renewal of your current subscription after May 7 2020.   If you elect to renewal still, you lose the 2 for 1 deal.  If your product is still perpetual on an active maintenance plan then its 1 for 1 deal on the trade in.

Going forward, the trade in is still based on your current renewal day.  So if you have Vault licenses that are coming upon renewal in July 2020 and Sept 2020, then trade in can only happen 90 days prior to that renewal day and it doesn't go into effect until your actual renewal date.  Meaning (as far as I understand it), you will still have a July and Sept renewal dates for your Vault or any other product on those subscriptions.

Update:  Forgot to answer this one as well...

Assigning a Vault license to a user and that user doesn't have a Vault account, then yes you're wasting a Vault license.  But perhaps I'm missing something here..  Even with network, if the person doesn't have a Vault account how are they supposed to log on?   Single user Vault licenses have been around since the 2017 or 2018 release.    In the end, any person needing access to the full Vault interface will require the use of the Vault product assigned to them in their Autodesk Account.

Ok, that makes that a bit more clear... although, if i'd have an email like "[email protected]" and there would be another person named Niels... it'd still be an actual human, but also generic in some way...

(email adress = alphanumeric serial number)

But i'll not go there without more details, because there will probably be legal implications and it's not going to be much of an issue for us except the fact that email addresses aren't actually free within our own domain.

The bit you're probably missing, though it won't really affect us as a small company, is probably that i was trying to implicate that the license manager isn't necessarily the same person as the Vault administrator.

Which is why i was wondering if the sign in somehow ties in with user management, though i doubt it does.

As for the rest of your reply, i think that answers a question i didn't really ask but that's ok.

The Autodesk Account & the vault users you create in Vault are not tied together

you will need to manage both places now for users

Have to correct Mark in quoted message.

Trade-in for maintenance plan is also 2:1

So in both scenario by trading in you will get 2 subscriptions on 1 maintenance seat/multi-user seat

The trade in amount was already clear for me and we already switched our maintenance plans to subscription when that was first offered, i kinda just wanted confirmation on that first half of my post to make sure i wasn't making any incorrect statements.

In all presentations about this switch..  The 2 for 1 is only listed under if the user has a subscription plan and trades in on their first renewal after May 7 2020.   Active maintenance plan was 1 to 1 no matter when you trade in.

I also would suggest to discuss contract and pricing with reseller who you are working with due to the reason of some specifics in different GEOs

I think it's 1:1 if you are switching from single user maintenance to single user subscription. For multi user, both maintenance and subscription switch is 2:1.
