clipboard error when pasting support values from Excel

Hi. We have a bridge model which includes piles; the piles are to be supported horizontally by springs along their length and so the model has many supports. In addition, we need to be able to adjust the spring stiffnesses for different scenarios. (This all relates to soil structure interaction analysis to PD 6694).

We need to be able to manage the many values of the spring stiffnesses and to be able to efficiently update the model. It should be possible for us to copy and paste the table in the "Define Supported Nodes" form in ASBD back and forth with an Excel sheet where it will be more easy to store and adjust values. This is a process that has worked in the past, however we are now occasionally encountering an error message which reads 'Cannot open clipboard: Access is denied.' when pasting into ASBD. Myself and a colleague using slightly different ASBD versions (22.0.0.147 and 22.0.1.40) have both had this issue on two separate models. Sometimes the error can be cleared by rebooting, but this is not ideal and we need to be able to reliably paste in replacement values.

Is this a known error with a solution? Is there an alternative method for updating these values?

Thanks

HI,

I had not come across this error message before but with a bit of trial and error I discovered that if I had "Clipboard History" turned on in my windows 10 system settings - thus allowing multiple copies to be stored then I got the same message as you.  To correct this, I had to turn clipboard history off and clear the clipboard (in the settings window) before copying and pasting again.  After that there was no problem.

I'm not sure of the reasons behind this but it is possible that the ASBD Paste from clipboard does not allow multiple choices.

I hope this helps and if this has answered your query, please mark my reply as a solution.

Kind regards

Thanks Dave. That does seem to have solved the problem. We found we didn't have the 'clipboard history' (which is under clipboard settings in the start menu) turned on anyway, but noticed there was something still collecting multiple clips (in the collection of background apps, next to the clock on the task bar). After turning this off, we've not had the issue.

I wish I could tell you, since turning it off it's vanished. All I can advise is that it was one of those ones next to the clock. It may or may not have been the cause, it's been an intermittent issue.

Hi John,

I'm not entirely sure what is causing this, but it seemed to work for me.  I did have to repeat the exercise a couple of times where I would turn clipboard history on - copy a couple of items - and then clear all the entries before turning the history off.  I could then copy and paste any number of times without the error message appearing.  Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Regards
