Disable touch to paint on sketchbook desktop

HI, I'm trying to find an option in the desktop version of the product to disable touch to paint. I want to set it so that touch is used for panning/zoom only. I'm using a Surface Pro 5 to paint on, I find that I end up with lots of random paint splodges all over my drawing, and then have to spend ages trying to find the layer they're on and delete them. Or rarely but more annoyingly, it'll register the touch and pen simultaneously and draw lots of lines between the touch and the pen stroke.

The surface pro doesn't seem to block touch when your pen is close to the screen. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, as I've also taken to using a virtual button pad that allows for modifier keys like control, shift etc to be used at the same time as using the pen.

A simple toggle, that just disabled paint with touch and replaces it with a more useful option, would be more desirable.

I have logged this as a suggestion for the development team.

Please try to use the WIndows 10 (tablet version) of sketchbook.  It is available here:

There is a PEN MODE.   Open SketchBook for Windows 10 > [=] > Preferences > Pen Mode

Hi, thank you for submitting the suggestion. I've had a look at the Windows app, and noted it's in that app. Which makes it all the more confusing why the features not on the desktop version.

Unfortunately the Windows 10 app seems to lack basic features that the desktop app has, just at a cursory review the few that I can quickly see... no folders, cant edit brushes, no settings for smooth stroke. etc. It's a shame there's a disparity between the 2 products.

it's sad to see that the 2 versions have that specific options not available in both...

i realy hope they will add it (since it's probably something like a copy paste of the code from one version to the other).

in the other hand, you can disable your touch screen from the device manager. your pen will still work and you won't get any input from your hand or finger. it's sad that we have to do this since, we choose to have a tablet for that specific option, but you know... sometimes we don't get why company take specific decision 😛

Yo Autodesk. If there is a Pro Version, shouldnt that have all the functionality of the lite FREE version and more? Like what gives? I have been forced to use the lite free version because i want to draw on my surface pro without getting random streaks all over my screen. A side effect of this, is that im stuck using crappy 72 dpi resolution. So if youre going to force paying customers to use a lite version to get a  necessary performance feature, dont downgrade the quality of their projects. Either that, or just give ALL OF THE FUNCTIONALITY IN THE PAID VERSION. THAT IS WHY WE ARE PAYING YOU MONEY, SO THAT WE CAN GET ALL OF THE FEATURES!!!!!!!!! WTF! Seriously!

Go to Windows pen settings. Its in the control panel, but just type "pen settings" in the start menu. There will be a checkbox for "Disable touch input when I'm using my pen".

Unfortunately this doesn't work on my tablet-pc for desktop version (HP Pavilion x2 Detachable) Probably an issue with Windows 10, I suppose. However, the app version does work when enabling pen mode. So technically there shouldn't be an issue to add support for the desktop version. I'll be waiting for a fix in order to be using the great flip book utility with a working pen mode!

I'm not sure but there might be a temporarily solution. I'm looking into it right now.

And let's be positive. I'm sure that our concern is not ignored but that there is a good reason why this isn't solved yet.

I'll keep you updated here if I've found a solution.

So I found a temporary solution. In Device Manager disable HID-compliant touch screen in Human Interface Devices.

It's not ideal because you can't use any fingers on your touch screen, but you'll be able to access everything with the pen (and mouse if connected). I'll create a little executable for enabling and disabling the touch screen so we're just a mouse click away. Hope you like this solution (for now).

I've found this little Tray Touch Toggle program which works great for me:

Over and out.

For newer Surfaces, I have found out that the the devices doesn't palm rejection correctly!  For older devices, you can try this:

That's why the Tray Touch Toggle comes in handy, for now at least.

However, I do feel that it should be easy to port the protocols used to enable pen mode with the app version to the desktop version. It should just be a matter of adding a pen mode button and applying the same protocols to it.

I mean, that works, but I put my hand down before pen so sometimes I do get random streaks. But it is better than nothing.
