Is there an easy way to make the ellipse tool into a selection? When I set an ellipse the way I like, and then use the wand, the ellipse disappears. If I try to use the fill bucket, the ellipse disappears. Seems like the only thing I can do with the ellipse tool is to draw a line that traces the edge, but I want to fill the inside of the ellipse with a color. Or be able to make it into a selection/mask to paint inside. Is there a direct way to do that (without having to draw a line along the edge)?

There isn't a ellipse selection tool. You will need to add a 'colored/filled' ellipse on a layer to make the selection.
You can check out this as well at around the 34 minute mark....(drawing a wheel without using a selection)....

Not that I know, you can lasso and distort your selection before filling, I would definitely use a separate layer just to be safe.
You can fill a selection that was made with a wand or lasso tool, but there's no direct way to do that with an ellipse. If you make a dotted line circle and then distort it, as soon as you click on a brush or fill tool, the circle disappears. It almost seems like a glitch. If it's not a glitch, then I don't know for what reason they made it like that.
Sketchbook is a great program, but they have a bunch of these small little problems/issues that don't seem to make much sense. They also seem like easy fixes but they never do. Oh well... There are ways around it, so no big deal.
