Simulation Mechanical is sorely missing some of the import and update functionality that Autodesk CFD has. Such as:
- The ability to select the location of the simulation project when importing a CAD file. This enables keeping CAD models on the network but running their respective simulations on a local computer. It also enables using the same CAD file to create multiple simulation projects, since the CAD is not inseparably tied to the simulation--this is a serious handicap to begin with.
- The ability to have not just different scenarios but also multiple designs in a single simulation project.
- The ability to update specific designs rather than having to update every design in the project.
Really, this is just one aspect that needs to be synchronized between the two programs. I know they both have a long history that resulted in their being so different, but it would look much better for Autodesk and be a much better experience for its simulation users if the interface and functionality were synchronized between simulation programs. And in that effort, key functionality like this and the Decision Center comparison tool need to be top priority.
