I am trying to mesh a 2D axisymmetric threaded connection in simulation mechanical. It has some interference at what would be a seal, so I have been trying to use the shrink fit/ sliding contact. The only mech type to actually mesh has been plate, but it changes the model from 2D axisymmetric to plate and does not run. How should I set this up to get it to mesh? I have also tried without the interference, and it still would only mesh in plate and does not run.

Hi Matthew,

I am not clear how you are creating the mesh (using the 2D mesher on a sketch? Using the 3D mesher on a flat surface?), but my guess is that your mesh is not in the proper plane. 2D elements must be created in the YZ plane with all X coordinates equal to 0. For axisymmetric 2D elements, the Z axis is the centerline.

If this isn't the solution, feel free to create an archive of the model and attach it to a reply. See "Create, Post, or Provide an Archive of your model".
