Hi @Anonymous,

Simulation Mechanical does not have a built-in composite material library. I recommend using Autodesk Helius Composite to design your laminates and then you can export it in a format readable by Simulation Mechanical.

Regards,

Andrew

Could you please let me know what is the difference between Sim Mech and Helius prior to Composite design? Does it mean that one cannot perform full Composite design in Sim Mech only as a self-efficient system?

Hi @Anonymous,

Helius Composite Design is meant for designing a composite material. It has a library of fibers, laminas, resins, and other things necessary to design a individual lamina or a laminate. It has some tools built-in for doing basic testing of a material like bending tests, tube and beam tests, and first ply failure analysis. The benefit is that it can export the material that you've designed to your FEA package of choice to be used in a more complex analysis.

Simulation Mechanical as a general purpose FEA tool can then read in the laminate that you've designed in Helius Composite. Simulation Mechanical does have the ability to build a laminate, but as you've found the library of composite laminas is limited.

Regards,

Andrew
