Screencast users,
Today, we have started the pilot program for our upcoming release of Autodesk Screencast.
The pilot program is open to everyone, and we'd like to collect yor feedback here in the forums in terms of usability, defects, or any other comments you'd like to share with us.
The (Windows) build is located here: https://screencast.autodesk.com/Pilot/ScreencastSetup.exe
(We are still working on the Mac version, so that will be about one month away)
Make sure to uninstall your current version before installing this product. If there are any major issues, you can always reinstall the existing version if needed.
WHAT'S NEW?
There is a new, modern User Interface - after the successful launch of our Autodesk Labs product, we wanted to develop a more modern feel to the user interface, but keep all of the feature/functionality intact. What started in our laboratory needed a bit of a facelift, more inline with today's technology.
Quick share - with this new version, you no longer have to wait to share your Screencast with a friend; once the basic processing is done on your laptop, you can share right away via the usual social media outlets (Twitter, FB, e-mail, LinkedIn) rather than wait for us to upload to the cloud and glue everything together.
Short URL's - another item you'll notice is that we now use short url's to make sharing easier.
Under the hood - outside of these improvements, what you don't see is a number of architecture projects which will lead towards upcoming features on our site (screencast.autodesk.com) - including your own marketable profile page showcasing your Screencast work to the public (or not if you so desire.) We are also looking at playlists and folders so you can bundle your work together in groups for sharing. And there are a number of performance improvements as well to optimize the speed of posting/playback.
Thanks again for being our customer and trying this pilot out - as always, all feedback is welcome.
-Eric

Will the previous repository of Screencasts be available if we use the new version? Will we be able to access new and old Screencasts simultaneously?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Nathan,
The answer is yes - you can access all Screencasts you've made both in the past and in the future. We treat them the same no matter the version of the App which is creating them.
Thanks - Eric

Will the information and the download-apckage also be added to the main-download-page?

Hi Peter, once we exercise the product through this pilot, we'll then replace the app which is on our main page. We are also finishing up our work on the Mac version. Once both projects are complete, all download links will be updated. There are a number of Autodesk University speakers who are creating materials for AU next week, so we are being careful not to make any major updates/changes until that event is completed.
In terms of timing, I would say we will target January for release.
Thanks - Eric

I meant if you want to place the pilot (as pilot) on the download page? Maybe it will get more testers?

Hi Eric,
I didn't notice the warning to uninstall the previous version before installing the pilot. Therefore, I will go and uninstall it before posting comments or questions, except: "What would the issues be if I didn't uninstall the previous version?"
Warm regards from Los Angeles,
Emmanuel

Hi Emmanuel - it's ok if you didn't uninstall first, just a best practice to let the installer clean up your system. (We've tested this on our end and there weren't any problems.)
Thanks - Eric

OK, I see. November-release is the same version 1.4 released in May 2014.

For me too, David. I was "confused" because the Pilot was announced and the (standard) download page got a new "date" (with old version...)

David and Peter,
Yes, your observation is right. This is expected. The official version of Screencast will have a version string of 2.0.
What is the version string are you expecting for Pilot release?

Hi Sree
as I wrote above it is already solved for me - I was only irritated by the new download date on the homepage.

I had no expectations; I was just responding to Peter's post indicating that "November-release is the same version 1.4 released in May 2014." I may have misinterpreted that, and thought he was saying that the pilot had the same version number (1.4) as the previous release, and was noting that when I installed the pilot, it listed a version number of 1.6.
