Principal stress angle

Robot online manual states

  • Stresses: s1, s2 , s12, angle.

    If you select s1, s2 or s12, it adds columns for stress values s1, s2 or s12, respectively, for individual planar FEs in the main coordinate system as selected during structure analysis.

    If you select angle, it adds a column for angle values between the local and main axis directions for individual planar FEs in the main coordinate system as selected during structure analysis.

I understand s1 is the greatest principal tensile stress and s2 is the lower tensile (or compressive) stress.

Please can 'angle' convention (ie positive or negative) be explained. What is the reference axis against which the angle is measured and what is the direction of rotation to determine the direction of the principle stresses. Thanks

Hi @howard.irons 

Angles are measured in range (-90;90) deg in respect to local panel x axis.

Below S1,S2 directions and corresponding angles for each finite element.

Hi Kryzstov, thanks for your reply. What is the command you use to view the direction of the s1, s2 stresses as you have done by displaying red and blue arrows in each FE element in your response snapshot? Thanks

I have used Results >Maps>Crosses tab and activated cross presentation

I see that, thankyou. I'm able to generate that plot now for my model.

 

And please can you point me toward how to generate the table outputting principal stress values?

Hi @howard.irons 

Use Results >Slab and Shell results.

Select table content by Clicking right mouse button and Table columns from context menu
