Try re-assigning the material to the thickness . It normally corrects the problem. assigning any thickness solved the problem here

How would you model a depression in a flat plate? GF-11 in the attached file. This is a plant area.
If you mean that GF11 is a small slab in a lower level connected to the main slab above by 4 walls/beams , probably I would model the walls as shell panels

These 4 walls/beams modeled as shell panels would be in tension, since it would act as hangers connecting the small slab to the main slab above, isn't it? If so, should it be reinforced concrete or steel?
nerver saw done with steel beam. Normal solution would be concrete
