HI there

Is there a list of not supported elements for lateral buckling analysis robot? How does the software decide for which elements it performs the lateral buckling verification and for which ones not?

Thanks in advance

Hi @antonio.lafuente

Lateral buckling verification is performed while member code check.

You decide if lateral buckling verification will be done while Code check member type definition.

For steel elements in can be checked by

Design >Steel member design - Options> Code parameters> New

for timber members

Design >Timber member design - Options> Code parameters> New

Please refer to the following tutorial

Steel Design - How to build the model and assign design parameters

This is not really the case. Even if you check the box during the design code verification I get a warning message saying that lateral buckling is not supported for some sections.

According to the link below some section are not supported any I wonder which ones they are

Hi @antonio.lafuente

I did not fully understood your question

Lateral buckling verification is not performed for

angles

tube like sections

user defined sections with arbitrary shape

non typical parametric sections (cross)

Compound sections

For all codes it is performed for I, C and T sections.

There are exceptions for some codes. For instance parametric cross is verified according to Pn (polish code) and is not verified according to EN code.

HI again

I'm still a bit puzzled by this question. In the beam below, why has the system not performed any member stability checks even when all types of buckling were allowed in the member definition?

Also, what would the difference between checking or not checking the sway option be? When should this be done? Is it just related to the critical load calculated from your buckling analysis?

Thanks in advance

Antonio

Hi @antonio.lafuente

Ad1 no stability check

No lateral buckling check because it is tube section

No buckling check, probably because element is subjected to tension

Ad2

Sway,non-sway option matters for automatic and semi automatic buckling length estimation procedures.

Please refer to the following thread sway,non-sway
