Instability for beam on elastic ground

I will try to amend it today and update you on the result. 

 

 

Also, I'm trying to model a beam on elastic foundations. Its a simple wide concrete beam resting on gravel of bearing capacity 500kN/m^2. This is a completely new task for me. I defined the linear support and elastic ground. That's as far as I can get. What is the next step? How will I actually apply this to my beam?

Hi @simjack

 

Defining elastic ground in the vertical direction you restrained the vertical direction but for a 3D model you need to do the same for horizontal directions and beam own axis rotation as well.

Hi Artur,

 

I have re-opened the structure in 2D environment and fixed the beam as recommended. I added a few notes at locations I wanted to apply my loads. 

I checked the bending moment under a selfweight of the beam only and it shows jumps at locations of the nodes, which I would not expect, also i would have expected a lot more symmetrical image. could you please advise on this?

Hi @simjack

 

Please mind that for the uniform load the MY bending moment is zero along the whole beam. The 'shape' of the diagram is just the numerical precision with values being very close to zeros and should be actually seen as a line along the beam itself. You can see this when you display its description (values)
