I am modelling a balsa wood truss bridge in Revit 2022, when I try to draw vertical members through the truss joining the top and bottom horizontal members, the below error message appears and I cannot proceed.

Do you have the correct reference plane set as the current workplane? Might want to consider using named reference planes. If elevations you can then set that named reference plane as being current, and then revit can place elements on that plane

I am able to draw horizontally and diagonally with that workplane, just not vertically for some reason.

Use 3D snapping and snap beam to an edge of a temporary element or a Model line >>> Once placed you may delete that element and end up with just the beam
