Tappered Circular Tree Columns

Hello Dears,

I would appreciate any help modeling that tapered circular tree column, which is attached below. The problem is that I need the clouded area to have a smooth surface, not a sharp one, but I can`t. I tried to create a mass but it failed to form the needed one.
