Structural Framing With Steel Connections Aren't Showing Hidden Lines in Plan

Problem:

Revit 2021 and Revit (Revit 2020 the lines show for either occurrence)

Beams under slabs show as hidden lines, if:

  1. Within the view range
  2. View discipline is “Structural” and “Show Hidden Lines” is set to “By Discipline”

BUT as soon as you add a structural connection to a beam – the hidden lines disappear for that beam as per the image below

View Properties as below:

Note: if one changes “Show Hidden Lines” to “All” the hidden lines show as expected – unfortunately, that has other undesirable consequences so is not a valid solution as that is then applied to all categories visible in the view.

Hi @AnthonyGardner ,

In my opinion Show hidden lines doesn't work on "Structural Connection" families.

When you insert a connection to the beam, the element properties change to a "Steel Fabrication Shape"

Once the item has been converted to a form of steel fabrication, some Revit tools can no longer be applied.

Hi @ArmanMargaryan

I can get Structural Connections to show with hidden lines if I set the view properties to

-Detail Level = Fine

-Discipline = Structural

-Show Hidden Lines = All

-Structural Connection Category = By View Or Fine

Yes I understand that the element properties change to a "Steel Fabrication Shape". However what I don't understand is if I have a model in Revit 2020 (where I have used the same 'Steel' ribbon tools and have all my beams showing with hidden lines under the floor Elements) Upgrade it to Revit 2021 or 2022.  I have all those hidden lines disappear.

Maybe I'm missing something, it just seems odd for Autodesk to have remove that functionality

FYI, this issue is now listed as a bug fixed in Revit 2023. Not that that helps those us stuck using 21 or 22 because the rest of the project team is using one of those versions. It's hit or miss though, I have 2 building on a corporate campus project (the entire campus project is in Revit 2021) where I used steel connections on ever beam in one project, and none of them disappeared, but on the other building, every beam I add connections to disappears.

Hi All,

I just found this question from last year, I have Revit 2024 and still have the same problem:

I cannot get these beams to be shown in Plan View complete as they are model.
