Revit and Autocad Xref's

Is there a way to link or attach an Autocad file that has overlayed xref's in it and not get the xref's to show in Revit? Right now we have to unload the xref's everytime we save our dwg's so that Revit users do not see items they do not care about. I would hope Revit has a way to deal with overlayed xref's that AutoCad does.

No I dont want to see the xref's I want Revit to not displaye the drawings that are xref'd into a dwg. Just like AutoCad will not display the drawings if I xref a drawing into another new drawing it drops the xref's out and only shows the current drawings data.

For instance:

I am drawing in A.dwg and I have 1.dwg xref'd in to A.dwg. If I choose to create a new B.dwg and xref A.dwg into it I would not see 1.dwg anymore because it is a child xref. This is all based on the parent child relationships in Autocad.

But if I start a ZZ.rvt file and I link or attach A.dwg into it I currently see A.dwg and 1.dwg. I do not want to see 1.dwg and I dont want to have to unload each time I save in Autocad to get this to work in Revit

Then save the file with another name and detach the xrefs.

How is your solution any different than what I am already doing? If you dont have a productive answer please dont reply. I am looking for a REVIT solution not an Autocad solution. I know how to handle Autocad what I dont know is REVIT.

I want a solution in REVIT to handle the xref's the way Autocad does and not display overlayed xref's of child drawings.

There isn't a solution as far as I know....its a totally different animal. Unless you create something in the API to dump all xrefs.  But other than that I doubt you will be able to do it out of the box.

What version of Revit are you working in? I was trying to reproduce this and when I have an xref as an overlay in AutoCAD, and I import/link the host DWG the overlay is not displaying in Revit. Do you have a sample fileset where this isn't the case?

You can swicth the layers off the X-ref in Revit, go to visibility & graphics(hit keys VV) go to import tab, expand the layers.

There you will see the layers X-ref is having layer name starting name of the X-ref file.

Hope this helps:)

I just wanted to check back in to see if you had a sample fileset, or whether the suggestion above of turning off the layer helped. Let us know if there's anything else we can do!
