All,
Has anyone else encountered an issue where modeling several hundred elements on a level cause the hidden lines to not show correctly? This happens on wood framed projects where any sizeable project can have hundreds of beam elements on each floor.
Two screenshots attached show less than 250 beam elements showing hidden lines correctly and more than 250 beam elements where the hidden lines do not show correctly.
With more than 250 elements, the hidden lines are not being drawn correctly. Each time a beam system or girder is moved, the hidden lines will "redraw" but incorrectly with many either not visible or showing solid lines.
When printing, the document will print ALL hidden lines correctly. Only the visibility on the screen is incorrect.
This appears to be a software issue.
We have seen this happen on all office computers with various specifications.
All have Nvidia Quadro P2000 video cards or better and 16GB RAM or better.
Does anyone know if this is a known issue and planned to be resolved?
Thanks!
-Eric

Hi Eric,
Could you please share your model with us, so that our team could investigate it? If you can't share it on the forum, please drop me a private message with you email and we can continue the conversation offline.
Kind regards,
I was able to replicate the issue using the Autodesk Sample Project.
See attached project. I created one larger flat roof with several hundred members. I added these views on sheet S101.
"View 1" shows a cropped view showing members correctly with hidden lines under a floor.
"View 2" shows the entire roof not showing hidden lines correctly under a floor. Even some beams are not visible.
Attached is a screenshot to show the onscreen view.
Note: We typically use 1/4"=1'-0" with "Fine" detail level for documentation on residential projects.
"Coarse" mode is not affected.
Also attached is a PDF printout of the same S101 sheet with all hidden lines displayed correctly even though the onscreen view doesn't show this.
Additional Info: Addins. I also disabled all installed addins and the same issue occurs.
Revit 2023 Version: 2023.0.2 (23.0.20.21)
Hi Eric,
Thank you for your very swift help. We will have a look at this file and I will get back to you.
Kind regards,
Hi Remco and Eric,
Our team has looked into this and I recommend you to visit the Revit Preview platform and to test there how your models are displayed in such cases. You can easily try with the sample project attached by Eric to his post, or with any file. Since this is a public forum, I suggest we move this conversation to the Beta forum, where we can discuss about features that are not commercially available. Feel free to share your feedback by creating a thread in the “For Everyone” forum.
If you don’t yet have an account on the Revit Preview platform, you can create one by accessing this link: https://feedback.autodesk.com/key/LHMJFVHGJK085G2M
Kind regards,
I would like to follow this discussion we are experiencing the same on-screen incorrect displaying of hidden lines on joined elements, yet it prints fine. Where do I find the Beta Forum?
Edit note: Changed the link to the thread created by Eric.
Hi Bill,
Please go to this thread to share your feedback with us, once you've tested the new behavior using the Revit Preview version.

Dan,
You must have been just a bit quicker and posted just before I did. I created a thread and copied at the attachments for easier access on the Revit Preview Platform.
The thread is named: Revit 2023 - Issue with Structural Discipline Hidden Line Visibility W/ >250 Beam Elements

Thank you, Eric, for creating that detailed post on the Beta forum. i really appreciate your contribution.
I have deleted the thread which I created and edited my previous post here to reference your post.

Looking forward to hearing your feedback on that Beta thread. Just open one of your project views where this issue occured and see how it is displayed now.
Kind regards,
Same problem here. We can replicate the problem on multiple machines with all of the 2023 flavors (2023, 2023.1 and 2023.1) Updated all video drivers, etc etc.
We have submitted the model to our software provider and they replicated the problem as well and we are awaiting ticket results from Autodesk.
This is to reply to Dan Peticila include for everyone too. Thanks.
We have the same issues with Revit 2023.....Come on Autodesk! I saw the Autodesk Revit Product Manager had seen this and replied in Oct 2022. Today is March 2023. Where is all hotfix update for Revit 2023. Not just one with visibility issue on the screen, several other issues. Everyone can't wait without any critical hotfixes to be update for 2023. Please don't ask me go to Revit Review Platform to look up the comments. You need keep open discussion in the Autodesk community. I did access to Revit Review Platform and it said "The page you are attempting to access is unavailable." after I clicked your link.
For me and my colleagues this problem is very annoying! When will there be a solution?
Same problem here, on screen structural elements under the floor randomly disappear but no problems when I make a PDF.
Edit: Changing "Show Hidden Lines" from "By Discipline" to "All" in View Properties seems to helping for me (for the moment).
