Can anyone tell me why this custom component is taking so long to place. Right now it's taking over a minute to place and I need to place 30 of them. It's a custom penetration opening to place where we have MEP pipe running thought the slab.

Not sure, for me placement is immediate.
Some thing you can look at:
-How does it perform on other computers in your organisation?
-If you have add-ins try to deactivate/remove them and see if that helps.
-In the past there have been issues with multi monitor setups, see what happens when only one monitor connected.
-See if there are updates for your graphics card.
-You also can try to do a repair/reinstall of Revit.
